In and around the area

The Fat Mulberry Guest Farm is on the doorstep of the historic town of Fouriesburg with its beautiful sandstone buildings

and colourful shops & restaurants.

Situated just a few kilometres from the Caledenspoort border post, the Fat Mulberry is the ideal base from which to explore Lesotho

or stop off on your way to AfriSki.

Clarens, with its bustling village square lined with speciality shops, restaurants & eateries, is a scenic 30-minute drive away.

The Clarens - Fouriesburg Road is considered one of the top 10 biking routes in South Africa.

The road has spectacular sweeping views that are a photographer's dream.

Cyclist also enjoy its challenging hills.

On the other side of Clarens is the Ash River outfall where you can enjoy white water rafting.

To the east is Golden Gate National Park with is spectacular sandstone cliffs and walks.

Ficksburg is about 50km south of Fouriesburg.

Enjoy a pit stop at one of the largest Cherry Farms in the area - Ionia Cherry Farm.

The Cherry Festival is held each year in November.

Further south of Ficksburg towards Clocolan, are The Cabin Farmstall and Constantia Cherry Farmstall, both well worth a visit.

This is the video that I am most excited about since arriving in the Eastern Free State two years ago!! In Episode 6 of "What makes the Eastern Free State lekker?" I feature a four day hike called the "Maluti Mountain Camino". Day 3 is the most spectacular so make sure you see that portion. The video is 41 minutes long, so sit back, relax and enjoy our breathtaking, incredibly lekker Eastern Free State!
We started our hike at Old Mill Drift near Clarens and hiked all the way to the Fat Mulberry Guest Farm near Fouriesburg. We stopped along the way at The Barbet Country Cottages, Lesoba Guest Farm, Mafube Mountain Retreat and Mile High Vineyards. You can contact Renee Coetzee Wolfaardt for bookings and info about the hike. I will feature more stunning places in and around Fouriesburg in the next episode.
